Sick

In A level history, we were always labelling
one country or another, 'the sick man of Europe'

I'm not naming names,
but surely this turn counts, for the worst?

In the game of national leaders
We don't look too clever

Victorian cartoonists would have a field day,
respectfully of course,

like they tell us is important, but I can't
shake the image

of England in a sea with hospital corners,
the thermometer stuck somewhere about Essex
