Day 8

Duolingo

It occurs to me that Gaelic will do as well as anything
in terms of social distancing-
all those hard 'chs' and phlegmy 'rs',
ideal for shouting across valleys, from peak to peak
in the face of the north wind

English ,on the other hand, is made
for small fields, wallpapered living rooms
with the slow tick of the clock
a steady monotone.
And it's ideal if you want to lean over and whisper

Or type up rants about one thing or another
Meanwhile, I'm practicing the naming
of the weather, creatures, feelings
pronouncing them over and over
as if this speaking were a kind of creation
