Day 11
Self portrait
Of a woman caught Unaware by the big eye.
Doesn't take a good snap, always looks uncomfortable
but can art transform her?
And I'd paint her in the style of Modigliani,
I'd paint her angular, tilted, more abstract,
I'd paint her in the colour of afternoon shadows
Or I'd dress her in wine red,
place her in the sky like Chagall,
her body curved like a darker rainbow
Or I'd paint her like Paula Rego’s girls,
crouching and baring her teeth in a smile,
draping a black dress that would sweep the dusty floor
And with a snapped in two pencil,
scrawling untidy, on the canvas edges,
She'd author her own tale
